The Arts & Crafts Movement

Whether you call it Arts & Crafts, Mission, Craftsman, Bungalow, Prairie, or even Art Nouveau or Celtic; whether you are thinking of people such as the William Morris, Gustav Stickely, Dirk Van Erp, Greene & Greene, Dard Hunter, or even Frank Lloyd Wright or Louis Comfort Tiffany; or whether you are thinking about companies such as Grueby, Rookwood, or Heintz Metal Works, or even Liberty & Co. or Buffalo Pottery; you are thinking about an era characterized by integrity of design, simplicity of construction, hand craftsmanship, and consistency with the down-to-earth philosophies and honest practices of the Arts & Crafts Era.

The Arts & Crafts Era, stretching from the late 1890's into the 1920's, reacted strongly against machine-made goods and the excesses of design and ornamentation typical of the Victorian Era that preceded it. In the process, it established itself as one of the most appealing and timeless design eras, with designs that remain fresh and usable in a broad variety of today's decorating and modern lifestyles.

Many things have changed since the Arts & Crafts Era, but the ideals and the integrity of design and craftsmanship that are the heritage of the Era continue to be represented by a diverse set of Artisans and Vendors that bring the ideals of Arts & Crafts into our surroundings and our lifestyles today. Because of the clean lines and unadorned designs from theArts & Crafts Era, products from the Era are as at home in today's modern settings, whether apartment, home, condominium, or loft, as they were then. Because of the ability to mix with other eclectic products and because of the quality of both design and construction, Arts & Crafts Era products, whether new or from the Era, are a timeless statement and an enduring investment. We invite you to visit the various sections within the Site and follow the links in the Resources section of the Site to learn more about the Arts & Crafts Era.

This website, Arts & Crafts-Lifestyle, is committed to supporting today's Arts & Crafts Artisans and Vendors by bringing Arts & Crafts Era information, Resources and Products into the easy reach of today's consumer. By providing a single, one-stop place for consumers to go for information and products from the Arts & Crafts Era, our objective is to create both a portal that will educate and inform Site users and a marketplace for Artisans and Vendors committed to the ideals and standards of the Era. Please take some time to look at some of the content within the Site. We have taken a lot of time to organize and present Arts & Crafts information and products in an organized way to allow you to quickly find what you are looking for. Within the Site, we have also provided links that allow you to learn more from the Arts & Crafts community, whether Artisans, other providers of products, or those who just desire to share their understanding and perspective on the Era.

We hope that you enjoy the Arts & Crafts-Lifestyle Site and take advantage of it to enrich your life by bringing more of the Arts & Crafts Era into your current lifestyle.
